What is VorTECH??
VorTECH stands for Verifying and Observing Rotation TECHnologies and is a Project with in The Colorado Storm Network (www.colostormnetwork.com). VorTECH provides data by streaming and also documenting weather conditions from mobile mesonets located in the front of severe weather with also video to this website in almost real time to help with warning times.
Currently VorTECH consists of two vehicles equipped with mobile mesonets that provide and record Wind speed/direction, barometric pressure, Temperature, Humidity, Dew Points and also sitting at one spot to record rainfall amounts that are then streamed here on the website with video and GPS from the vehicles location.
Our goals in the future are to have the ability to study hail stones two inches and above with a hail collecting device to be layed out prior to the storm cell hitting a location. The hail pods will include a GoPro camera mounted on the Styrofoam dock.
